White Tank Mountain Regional Park encompasses more than 26,000 acres. The natural, rugged terrain features canyons, ridges, and the majestic White Tank Mountains. The park was established in Maricopa County and close to the community of Waddell, Arizona. Adventurous visitors enjoy many different activities at the location.
Animal Encounters
The White Tank Mountain Park Nature Center maintains a regular schedule of animal encounters that enables guests to learn about wildlife in the area. Park rangers offer the presentations that bring visitors face-to-face with a variety of mammals, reptiles and other animals while learning about each species.
Camping
Consider spending the weekend at one of the 40 campsites that accommodate both tent and RV campers. The developed sites a large enough for 45-foot RVs. Each site has a picnic table, BBQ grill and a fire ring along with electric hook-ups and water. There is a dump station within close proximity. The modern restrooms feature flushing toilets and showers. But, sites must be reserved online.
Hiking
White Tank Mountain Regional Park contains 30 miles of multi-use trails. Mountain biking and horseback riding is allowed. The paths accommodate novice to experienced hikers alike by ranging in difficulty from easy to difficult. The trails also range in length from 0.9 of a mile to 7.9 miles. However, there are approximately 2.5 miles of trails that are designated for pedestrians only. There are numerous archeological sites scattered throughout the park, which were created by the Meso-Indians and the Hohokam people. The sites feature the remains of ancient villages and petroglyphs.
Horseback Riding
Horse owners are welcome to bring their steeds and enjoy the miles of trails. Staging Area A readily accommodates vehicles and horse trailers. For other guests desiring to enjoy a scenic ride, consider visiting the White Tank Ranch, which exists adjacent to the park and provides horses for trail rides. Stargazing
The park’s rural location boasts wide open skies void of light pollution, which provides stargazers with spectacular views. On specified Saturday evenings throughout the year, Tony La Conte offers stargazing programs. Learn about various galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. Look through the telescope and see the night sky in a unique way.
