Everyone loves to shop, and there are many great areas where shopping is quite prominent. From Hamburg with its vinyl to St. Petersburg with its designer island, to even Toronto and its artsy distillery district. Shopping districts are all around us, so with that said, we are going to take a look at some of the coolest shopping districts around the world.
This lively, sweeping curve of a high street caters to a plethora of tastes and interests. This area has come a long way having been immortalized in the Dire Straits song Tunnel of Love and was once a popular destination for hen and stag parties. Today, it is packed with many different independent boutiques and stores like Hound Dog Music, Lottie McPhees (for those who love cupcakes), Whitley Bay Skate Club for skateboarders and roller skaters, and Pulp Fiction Future Food. They also have local craft ale in its own microbrewery pub named The Dog & Rabbit, along with a bottle shop/tasting room known as Nord.
The small city of Leiden located near The Hague boasts a lovely mix of artisan bakeries, small fashion and design shops, galleries, cheese shops, an ethnographic museum shop, and many other vintage stores. They also offer great food along with textiles markets on Wednesday and Saturday respectively. Additionally, you will find picturesque canals lined with old houses with crowds of students on bikes.
Lake Geneva is another great place for shopping. They have plenty of cool knick-knack and novelty shops along with others that sell useful things like clothes and chocolates. While the area is 1,000 miles from the ocean, you will still be able to find surf shops, bicycle cafes, record shops, and stunt kite shops with a Southern California vibe. In the winter, you can enjoy ice-fishing, skiing, and helicopter rides off the frozen lake. And in the summer, there is a beach, ziplining, and paddle steamers.
